We’ll go into more detail tomorrow but for now we’ll record that Mayo have won their fourth Connacht U-21 title in a row thanks to a comfortable 3-14 to 1-8 win over Sligo in Markievicz Park this evening.
A first half goal from Jason Doherty helped Mayo to a 1-10 to 1-4 half-time lead and Neil Douglas’ goal just after the resumption effectively put paid to any Sligo hopes. Mayo hit their third goal with the last score of the match, Mikey Sweeney flicking to the net.
Centre-half forward Aidan O’Shea picked up the Man of the Match award while Tom Parsons had the honour of lifting the cup as Mayo go into an All-Ireland semi-final, where they’ll meet the winners of the Ulster final next Wednesday between Down and Armagh.
Along with O’Shea and Parsons, others to impress were Neil Douglas, Jason Doherty, Eoghan Reilly and Kevin McLoughlin.
