The Mayo team for Sunday has been named and it’s an interesting one.

Two under 21s start with Kevin McLoughlin selected at left-corner back and Aidan O’Shea at full-forward in a move unlikely to impress U-21 joint managers, Messrs Connelly and Holmes.

It doesn’t impress me either as surely the U-21 competition should take precedence but perhaps I don’t know the full story.

What would normally be the big news is slightly relegated but very interesting all the same – Conor Mortimer has again failed to make the starting fifteen. Austin O’Malley retains the number 13 geansai while Billy Padden comes in for fellow Erris man Mikey Sweeney in the other corner.

How will they line up? Well we can hardly expect to see BJP start in the corner. It would be pleasing to see him giving Mark Ronaldson’s roving role and for Ronaldson to audition for top of the left. But I reckon it will be more a case of Padden swopping directly with Dillon, which could leave us with a very blunt half-forward line if Ronaldson is deep.

Anyway the team in full is:

1: David Clarke

2: Liam O’Malley, 3: Ger Cafferkey, 4: Kevin McLoughlin;

5: Peadar Gardiner, 6: Tom Cunniffe, 7: Andy Moran;

8: Pat Harte, 9: Ronan McGarrity

10: Mark Ronaldson, 11: Trevor Mortimer, 12: Alan Dillon

13: Austin O’Malley, 14: Aidan O’Shea, 15: Billy Joe Padden.

The Tyrone team has also been named as is as follows: John Devine; PJ Quinn, Conor Gormey, Dermot Carlin; Davy Harte, Ryan McMenamin, Philip Jordan; Kevin Hughes, Enda McGinley; Joe McMahon, Brian McGuigan, Ryan Mellon; Niall Gormley, Sean Cavanagh, Owen Mulligan.

We’ll return tomorrow to discuss the potential match-ups and preview how we think the game will go. Time for bed now!
